China is a net carbon sink in the range of 0.19～0.26 Pg carbon（PgC）per year.Northeast China is a net source of CO2to the atmosphere.By contrast，southern China accounts for more than 65 per cent of the carbon sink.In Inner Mongolia，grazing decreases rather than increases N2O emissions.Intensified management of ecosystems for resource extraction can increase their vulnerability to future disturbances.Mirid bug outbreaks in multiple crops correlated with wide-scale adoption of Bt cotton in China.A draft sequence of the giant panda genome was generated and assembled.The assessment of panda genes potentially underlying some of its unique traits indicated that its bamboo diet might be more dependent on its gut microbiome than its own genetic composition.Finally，6 priority areas for future biodiversity research in China were proposed.
